Interviewed for MAOHP - 21/02/2025
Reference Code: IE_MA_MAC_006_MAOHP_008_A
Length:

Corporal Seamus McDermott was born in Corlea in county Monaghan in May 1941 and joined the Defence Forces in 1957. In this clip he recalls the evening that he volunteered for a mission to the Congo in September 1960. He remembers that after volunteering, he and some colleagues went to the cinema in Athlone. There, they saw Pathe News show footage of the Congo and only then realised the danger of where they were heading to. He later travelled to the Congo with the 35th Battalion.
