Pictorial History of Óglaigh na hÉireann (Defence Forces of Ireland)

A tradition of service and loyalty runs as a theme throughout the history of the Irish Defence Forces. This booklet provides an understanding of the origins and history of the armed forces of Ireland. Established by the Volunteers in 1913, it evolved to become the modern Defence Forces we know today.

Congo Pictorial History

The Belgian Congo became an independent Republic on 30th June 1960; twelve days later, the Congolese Government requested military assistance from the United Nations to maintain its territorial integrity. A courageous Irish Government acceded to the UN request to allow an Irish troop participation to deploy on the peacekeeping mission. This new departure both for the Defence Forces and the nation is explored in this fascinating booklet.
