United Nations Mission Eritrea and Ethiopia


mission:
The Mission was established on 15 September 2000 by the adoption of
Security Council Resolution 1320. The main goals of the mission are to
monitor the cessation of hostilities, to assist in ensuring the observance
of the security commitments agreed by the parties, to monitor and verify
the redeployment of Ethiopian forces from positions taken, to monitor the
positions of Ethiopian forces once redeployed and to monitor the positions
of Eritrean forces. The mission was terminated in July 2008

Medal obverse
The medal bears a map of the world, bronze in colour, surrounded by olive
branches and bearing the letters UN on the top inscribed in bas-relief.

Medal Reverse
The medal reverse contains the expression IN THE SERVICE OF
PEACE inscribed in bas-relief.


ribbon:
oBvERSE
The medal ribbon has two outer bands of UN blue, symbolizing the
presence of the United Nations. The inner band in green symbolises
hope and the fertility of the land. The two bands in tan symbolise religious
freedom and the ruggedness of the country.


Qualification:
Qualifying period of 90 days of service in the mission area.
